Whey Protein Bread with Golden Linseeds

There he is - my dad - slicing a loaf of bread and placing a slice on his plate. He then reaches for the dark chocolate, cuts off a square, and places it on top of the bread. Holding the chocolate in place with his fingers (or sometimes roughly sandwiching the chocolate inside the bread), he dips it inside his coffee. The bread gets slightly soggy, the chocolate begins to melt. Then, in one sudden move, BAAAAAAAM: he takes a massive bite.

Growing up, I could never understand the appeal this. Bread + chocolate, dipped in coffee?? Now though, with protein bread? I get it. The result is this somewhat pain-au-chocolat-ish coffee thing that's  simply m-mm-mmm! Maybe I like it now because whey protein bread is millkier - less salty, hartier - than regular white bread. Oh is it good though, give it a shot :-)

I made this bread while roughly following the bread I made last week. This one turned out pretty similar but a lot whey-er. It tastes more like protein bread than last week's but is still, in my opinion, a top notch loaf of halla halla ;-)
Here goes:

Ingredients: whisked together and baked for ~30 minutes at 170 C (338 F) in a bread loaf pan:

1 cup of liquid egg whites
1/2 cup of organic unflavored whey (I used this one again)

1/2 cup of millet flakes
3/4 cup of amaranth flour
1/4 cup of applesauce
1/8 cup of linseeds
1/2 tbsp of baking powder
1 tsp of sea salt

Keep an eye on it and take it out as soon as you can stick a knife/fork/chopstick in there and it comes out clean. Allow it to cool and BOOM! -> Ready :-) I had a few slices next to some eggs + bacon and ended the whole thing by, you guessed it, topping another slice with a square of dark chocolate and dipping the whole thing into my coffee.

Macros per one slice (out of ten that the above loaf yields):
80kcals
7.7g protein
10g carbos (1.7g sugars)
1.7g fat (0.2g sat)
1.6 g fiber.

  1. Wow, I am loving the savory recipes! (Well, I LOVE the sweets but it's good to have variety!) And this one has such simple ingredients!

  2. Sorry, but what is linseed? Is this another name for flaxseed?
